Peterborough Energy
Peterborough Energy resulted from a collaboration between Ovo Energy that supplied energy to its clients and Peterborough City Council that maintained the tariffs; this is called a white label contract because Ovo supplied the energy whilst Peterborough Council distributed it as their own.
They had three tariffs: a fixed rate tariff, a variable rate tariff, and a prepayment tariff. The goal was to keep prices low and help their customers be informed through smart meters and customer service. Since 2019, Peterborough Energy shut and no longer exists, although its previous customers were transferred to Ovo Energy, which upholds the same goals. Peterborough Energy – Smart Products
Various technologies are offered to help customers understand their energy consumption and identify ways to lower it.
Smart meters are heavily encouraged by Ovo, so much so that an appointment can be made online, and an engineer will be chosen to install it so that all you have to do is pick a time and date. They are so beneficial because they help both you and the energy company.
After all, energy data is sent via broadband and is, therefore, more accurate than manual readings, eliminating the estimated costs and having to check the traditional meters yourself. This information can be sent half-hourly (HH), daily or each month depending on preference. Moreover, the display helps to visualise how much energy is being used and from where so that you can recognise areas of excessive consumption and reduce them.
Smart thermostats are a popular method of controlling your heating and hot water. Essentially, they work as sensors and either increase or decrease the temperature inside depending on the outside climate, so energy is not wasted on a warm day and is plentily available on cold ones. You can also manually adjust the heating through your phone whether you are at home or not so that the temperature is always at the level you desire. This can decrease energy bill costs as the heating can be controlled from any location and at any time. Still, more importantly, the temperature is maintained automatically so that any misjudgements or mistakes made concerning the heating can be easily corrected. Furthermore, you can be notified of advice on saving more energy via the Tado system and visualise how much you are heating the premises and the associated costs.
The smart export guarantee is an incentive that can assist small businesses in getting paid for the energy they did not use and would otherwise go to waste. Many have decided to generate renewable power through solar panels harnessing the sun, wind power by spinning turbines, hydropower by collecting water and biomass combustion to create gases. Because you are generating your energy, you can opt for the intelligent export guarantee tariff, which allows you to sell this excess electricity to the national grid. As a result, you can earn additional money simply for selling this energy. For every 1kWh, you are paid £0.04p. However, this is only on the fixed tariff, and you can choose the variable tariff whereby the rates may differ based on the market value.
Peterborough Energy – Electric Vehicles
An electric vehicle works by using electricity instead of petrol or diesel. They have become increasingly popular over the years as more people become conscious of how we pollute the environment. So, energy companies aim to encourage their clients to get involved. For example, an exclusive Drive tariff allows electric vehicle users to charge their cars for low costs, even though electric vehicles are already significantly cheaper to power than regular vehicles. Additionally, discounted electric vehicle chargers are available so that you do not have to drive to a designated station to fill up. This is advantageous because fully powering the car usually takes 8 hours.
Peterborough Energy – Boilers
Older boilers are less efficient than more modern ones, as they are designed with different needs and before we developed energy-saving methods. As a result, installing a new boiler can often be more cost-effective, and even though the installation costs are expensive, this is often cancelled out in the long run. Installation is quick and even includes a smart thermostat so that you can control your heating more easily and technologically, as mentioned above. For example, if your boiler is over ten years of age, begins to leak fluids or makes distinctive loud sounds, these are signs that you should consider purchasing a new one.
Peterborough Energy – Greenlight
Greenlight is an OVO-specific tool that allows users to visualise their energy consumption. It acquires data from your electrical devices, heating and hot water and then combines it so that you can see how much energy each system uses, how much this costs, and the annual carbon footprint of the premise. Seeing this in an accessible and transparent format as anomalies can be recognised, and energy can be controlled easier.
To Conclude
In conclusion, Peterborough Energy is now a part of Ovo Energy, and clients were transferred accordingly. Various products and services can help maintain energy consumption and decrease energy bills.
