Fairer Power & Comparing Business Energy Alternatives
Fairer power was one of the modern waves of energy organisations that sprung up in the wake of the United Kingdom’s changing energy sector. Many observers argued that its somewhat brief existence was one of the UK’s more novel energy initiatives. Things were made easier for Fairer Power via their collaboration with the more well-known name, OVO energy.
OVO has become a well-established brand in the UK and is a popular choice for consumers looking at the available energy options. Part of the reason for this impressive level of popularity is the level of emphasis they place on customer service, which keeps many of their customers consistently happy and feeling like they’re being taken care of. Who Are Fairer Power Business Electricity and Business Gas?
Fairer Power primarily focussed on bringing energy to customers in the Cheshire East and Preston City regions. They made some bold claims before shutting up shop, such as saving customers an average of £288 on their energy bills each year. Potential customers could find out more precisely how much they could save by submitting a few details onto the unique tool on Fairer Power’s website.
History of Fairer Power Business Utilities
Things got off the ground for Fairer Power when Cheshire East Council and OVO energy decided to partner up. OVO Energy was founded in 2009 and is still headquartered in Bristol. It was founded by British businessman Stephen Fitzpatrick, who also created Vertical Aerospace. Despite it being a relative newcomer in the British energy sector, it is now widely considered one of the ‘big six’ in the UK, primarily after it acquires the retail arm of SSE. It is now Britain’s third-largest domestic energy supply company, putting it in a position to work on projects such as the collaboration with Cheshire Council that resulted in the birth of Fairer Power.
Whilst OVO energy has come under some criticism for undercharging and overcharging companies, for which the company was ordered to pay redresses of over £2.8 million, they have also earned praise for their use of green energy, particularly electricity. They offer two tariffs, OVO Better Energy, 50% green electricity, and OVO Greener Energy, 100% green electricity.
T he primary source of this green energy is wind farms in North Wales and Gloucestershire. Much of the non-green electricity comes from burning landfill gas, which is heavily damaging to the environment. On the other hand, much of their gas comes from the British national grid, which is primarily sourced from the North Sea. A smaller amount comes from Norway and Continental Europe.
The company made itself an outlier of the sector when it spoke out against its competitor’s assertions that the international global prices of gas and electricity had consistently risen. The British Energy and Climate Change Select Committee asked companies to justify recent price rises for gas and electricity. Stephen Fitzpatrick said that the explanation of the Big Six didn’t add up since “wholesale gas prices had got cheaper”.
It is only due to the company’s considerable size that they found themselves in a position to speak out against the sector’s claims of rising costs and set up projects such as Fairer Power.
One feature that made Fairer Energy a tempting prospect whilst in business was their promise never to charge customers to leave. So even if someone were to find themselves unhappy with the services they received despite the lower prices, they would still be able to move on to another provider if they found themselves a more fair deal. Many customers find themselves stuck in an arrangement they’re not happy with for far longer than they should be, so having this option to keep things flexible was always a tempting part of the offer.
Another selling point was the ability to build up a bit of cashback on your Fairer Power account. If customers accumulated any credit in their Fairer Power account, they would receive 3% interest.
What Did Fairer Power Business Energy Offer?
Fairer Power offered three main different energy plans.
Unsurprisingly, the first of these, Fairerpower Fixed, was their fixed contract plan. This was set for a year and allowed customers to leave at any time.
Fairer Power customers would also receive all the benefits of OVO Energy’s customer service as part of this contract.
Fairerpower Variable was the second of the energy plans. You’ll get no rewards for guessing this was their variable price plan. It may result in higher costs if prices were to rise for any reason, but if you have any predictions that prices may go down, or you like to take your chances, then you may decide that this could have been a potential money saver over twelve months.
Fairerpower PAYG allowed its customers to go on a pay as they go on. OVO Energy played a crucial role in carrying out the metering and taking payments.
The company promised that pay as you go customers would also be getting a fair deal.
The last few years have been tumultuous for the energy sector, and Fairer Power wasn’t the only organisation to fall to the wayside during the rough time. By the company’s end, its Trustscore on the customer review website Trustpilot had slipped to 2.2 out of 5, which is certainly below average.
However, things looked brighter when the company was first off the ground, and the organisation wasn’t stretched thin. Many of the complaints were related to the company’s prices, with customers claiming sudden bill increases and high prices caught them out. This is especially surprising from a company that many customers would have switched to due to the company’s advertised ability to save people money.
Whilst the company didn’t have a vast customer base, serving only in the Cheshire and Lancashire areas, there may still be some former users who are worried about what has happened to their accounts.
Fairer Power Business Energy – To Conclude
The company’s site is still up along with the Fairerpower login portal, which will allow former customers to log in and get an update on their account’s status. Most customers are now with OVO, who look likely to be here, in the long run, to continue matching customers’ energy needs.
