M&S Energy
M&S, also often known as Marks & Spencer’s, is one of the most well-known retail names in Britain. They specialise in goods such as clothing, food products and home products. It is a constituent of the FTSE 250 index on the London Stock Exchange listing. If you would like to read more information or learn more about the pricing of business energy, you can do so here.
M&S Energy
One of the reasons that M&S has managed to make such a name is because it has been around for so long. It was founded back in 1884 in Leeds by Thomas Spencer and Michael Marks, from who the company derived their name. From these humble beginnings and unless has grown to have 959 stores across Great Britain today.
However, not all of them sell the full range of products they can be found in the larger stores. 615 of the 959 stores only sell M&S’s highly revered food products, which are regularly promoted through television advertising that boasts of the luxury of these products. Being such a long-standing institution, it also keeps things modern and offers an online food delivery service in collaboration with Ocado.
M&S has some impressive records to its name. Perhaps the most noteworthy is that they became the first British retailer to make a pre-tax profit of over £1 billion in 1998.
As M & M&S has expanded, they have added other services to their brand. As well as their primary retail business, M&S also partners with other corporations said that they could provide extra M&S branded services. One of these is M&S bank, which provides credit products and financial services and is operated by HSBC UK. Another is M&S opticians, which has the retailer’s branding that Owl Optical operates. The last of these, which we will look at here, is M&S energy. M&S Energy is a supplier of electricity and domestic gas and, whilst boasting the M&S branding, is operated by Octopus Energy.
One of the aspects of M&S energy’s operation that they display the most private is that they provide 100% renewable electricity. They use solar, hydro and wind sources to provide power to their customers. This is a much more environmentally healthy choice than many larger suppliers’ fossil fuel options. Renewable electricity has a far more negligible impact on the planet’s warming. It, therefore, does not have a drastic impact on climate change in the same way that the supply of many other energy companies does.
Who Supplies M&S Energy?
This is achieved thanks to M&S energy’s supplier, Octopus energy. Switching to M&S is easy. They claim that they will do all of the legwork for you, which means you don’t have to worry about some of the things that can often make switching energy suppliers so stressful such as engineers, these and disruptions. According to their website, by switching over to M&S energy, you can easily save up to a hundred and £60 in a year compared to a standard variable tariff from one of the big six.
If you switch to M&S energy, you will be stuck with the difficulties of a customer service team from a more extensive operation such as octopus energy. M&S provide their own UK based customer service team when you switch over to them as your supplier. As well as the convenience of contacting this team by phone, you’ll also be able to get access to M&S energy’s ambassadors in-store at your local branch. This, for many people, is a much-preferred way of communicating rather than being stuck trying to work things out with someone without a face over the phone.
The partnership with octopus energy has its main benefit in the company’s credentials for four environmental sustainability. In 2021 they were voted the company that has done the most to advance UK renewables by the Renewable Energy Association. This is a known small achievement in a time when all companies are making an effort to appear as enthusiastic about being eco-friendly as possible. So to say that M&S energy’s partner has done the most means that you can feel confident that you switch over. You will be using energy from the supply that is doing social good.
As time goes on and we increasingly have to confront the problems that climate change is sending hurtling away, companies that provide renewable energy sources will come increasingly important. Until the big six can stand up to their responsibility and take a more proactive role in pushing renewable energy forward alongside other environmental initiatives, it is up to companies like M&S Energy to push it in the right direction.
