Network Infrastructure and Development
Operators strive to provide mobile voice and data services at the lowest cost possible while retaining long-term, high-quality revenue. Since the introduction of LTE and the new Evolution-data capabilities on multi-mode terminals (MMs), operators have felt pressure to add additional capacity. However, network capacity is limited by physical plant limitations, transmission constraints and limited access to spectrum and backhaul.
To address these issues, Mix Networks utilises a combination of technical and business solutions to manage network capacity, including managed services contracts, white space spectrum licensing, network optimisation and network design.
Company History
Mix Networks was founded in September 2007 by Nirav Tolia and Alon Weiss (CTO and VP of Technology, respectively). The company released its first product – the Telo – in April 2009. In September 2009, Mix raised £4.5 million in Series A funding from BDC Venture Capital. In October 2009, Mix was named one of the top 30 most innovative companies in United States telecommunications by FORTUNE magazine. Mix Networks grew to over 30 employees in its first year, including field operations for the Telo and a worldwide sales force.
In 2011, Mix raised £32 million in Series B funding from In-Q-Tel and M Ventures. The funding enabled the company to expand its product line, including the Saleo Telephony Platform (STP), enabling operators to increase their networks’ utilisation. STP is now being offered as a hosted service on top of the Cloud Connect Platform (CCP). Both CCP and STP together provide a whole new spectrum of capabilities for operators that have turned to smaller cell sites and fibre or are challenged with high data consumption subscribers due to casual users, businesses or prepaid consumers.
Mix Networks provides several solutions such as customer premises equipment (CPE) and backhaul equipment that enable operators to quickly increase network capacity by delivering new services to their customers. Mix’s solutions are primarily based on adaptive waveform technology, transforming existing networks into all-IP networks.
Mix Networks is headquartered in Connecticut. It has offices in several countries worldwide, including the United States, China, India, Israel and the Philippines. The company has more than 100 employees.
The company has developed two product lines: the first line is Customer Premises Equipment (CPE), used to support networks and mobile broadband services; the second line is backhaul equipment.
CPE Products are based on adaptive waveform technology that changes existing networks into all-IP networks. The cost of CPEs is recovered within a few months as operators can expand their services and increase bandwidth for fixed and mobile broadband. Recently, Mix Networks announced the Company’s FAP™ platform, which provides an improved user experience for users of 3G/4G networks by reducing buffering and providing faster application performance. Network operators can offer enhanced broadcast video services to users with predictable, scalable video quality.
Adaptive Networking Solutions
Mix’s adaptive waveform solutions transform existing networks into all-IP networks that enable operators to introduce new services and applications while improving the quality of existing services. Mix’s technology enables only minimal capital investment by operators, as all necessary infrastructure is included in the solution. This allows operators to quickly accommodate new business needs and expand service offerings while minimising costs. The Company’s Adaptive Networking Solutions are deployed in the core of the network and act on the edge of the network, where they optimise performance and reduce data losses.
Mobile Backhaul Equipment
The Mix Networks backhaul solutions improve operator revenue by reducing costs associated with bandwidth access. This solution provides operators with low-cost and high-speed broadband access to their fixed networks. The company’s solutions leverage WaveLAN® technology to help operators reduce capital investment for backhaul and increase revenues through new business opportunities.
Mix Networks – To Conclude
Mix offers three adaptive waveform solutions: Adaptive Broadband that reduces the cost of upgrading broadband networks for 4G LTE deployments; Adaptive Mobile Core for 4G LTE cellular UMTS and GSM-R coverage extension; and Adaptive Backhaul for fixed-line service providers extending IP connectivity to the last mile.
