Company History of Jive Phone Systems
Jive was founded in 2007 by co-founders Logan McDonald, Matthew Kiernan and Matt Peterson as a VoIP service provider. Its first customers came from the advertising, technology and construction industries in the Greater Toronto Area of Canada. It started to focus more on the small-to-medium business market in 2012. In June 2015, Jive was acquired by UK-based private equity firm Livingbridge for £872 million. The company was then moved to London. Today, Jive has over 300 employees across four countries: Canada, the United States, Australia and the United Kingdom.
Software Offerings By Jive Phone Systems
The company produced unified communications, messaging, contact centres and software-as-a-service applications with a social networking component that encouraged real-time collaboration and knowledge sharing. The technology could integrate with enterprise applications such as Salesforce.com, NetSuite and Microsoft Dynamics CRM, Microsoft Office Outlook and others via standard protocols including SOAP/XML over HTTP.
The Jive Software platform included features similar to Yammer enterprise social network software. Social networking features included Buddy Lists, Profiles, Posts, Feeds, Groups and Convos. The software also offered a mobile application for Apple iOS, BlackBerry OS, and Google Android called Jive Messenger.
Jive also produced Jive Chime, a phone system designed to work as an online business phone system or a contact centre platform. The system supported VoIP (Voice over IP) and PSTN connectivity with ten lines per account. Free calling between accounts was supported under certain conditions.
Each client can create a free account for up to five users, which provides unlimited instant messaging and messaging on the social network. Jive charges a per user per month fee for additional licensed accounts beyond the free set, billed automatically out of an account’s transaction level. Per-user access is based on “unlimited” usage that includes checking Jive chat rooms, contacting others through Jive Chat, IM or SMS texts and listening to conversations within Jive with other company employees.
